Using Robotics to Combat Skilled Labor Shortages and Cost Pressures

Wemag in Fulda, Germany, offers robots for collaborative welding, pick-and-place operations as well as palletizing, with the option to evaluate them on-site in real-world application scenarios. With locations in Hessen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Bavaria and Thuringia, the company runs its own welding technology and robotics center. On site, customers can try out several machine types and technologies, from drills and suction robots to complex welding robots – including the possibility to test them with their own parts and components.

“We see robotics as a solution to the shortage of skilled workers, shrinking margins for our customers and technology gaps – especially among SMEs. Collaborative robots (cobots) can weld, glue, grind, screw, assemble, load and plate. But whether a specific robot fits into a company’s technical environment and workflows shouldn’t be discovered only after purchase,” explains Christopher Schaus, Managing Director and owner of Wemag. “That’s why we now carry several brands of robots and work hand in hand with system integrators to realize even complex applications. And everything can be tried and tested on-site, without obligation.” Wemag also utilizes some of these robots in its own operations. In addition to tool sales, the company operates a metalworking division focused on machining, as well as its own logistics center.
