Heading into the Future with a Dual Leadership Team

Jebens GmbH, Korntal-Münchingen, Germany, is a specialist company for heavy flame-cut parts, mechanical processing and welded constructions with unit weights up to 160 tonnes. The company is starting out 2024 with a new management team. After twelve years in this position, Managing Director Carsten Schmickler left the company at the end of 2023. His successors are Susanne Britz and Marcel Pfahl – two experienced managers from the company's own ranks.

After completing her engineering studies, Susanne Britz, 57, gained extensive experience in sales, purchasing, development management, production and supply chain management. She joined Jebens in 2017 and initially worked in purchasing. For the past three years, she has been in charge of supply chain management. Marcel Pfahl, 37, joined Jebens in 2010 as a mechanical engineer and has been responsible for technical management at the two plants since 2019.

When Carsten Schmickler took over the company management in 2011, he found a company with a high standard of quality using processes that were similar to those of any large skilled trade business. Simple welded assemblies were already manufactured back then. The customer base was almost exclusively limited to the DACH region. He continiously moved the company's development into a full-service provider, with products ranging from simple flame-cut parts to ready-to-install assemblies. In addition, his set goals were to expand the international customer base and increase transparency within the company through strictly process-orientated work. He and his team have successfully set the course with these goals in mind.

In their dual leadership role, Susanne Britz and Marcel Pfahl want to advance the culture of innovation and future-orientation. Susanne Britz's responsibility will initially continue to focus on sales, commercial management and supply chain management. Marcel Pfahl's focus will initially be on production, technology and personnel, but will increasingly include supply chain issues. Together, they want to advance business development by tapping into new customer groups and expand export business.

By focussing even more on the company's strengths – large-scale projects with complex welded assemblies and comprehensive project management – they want to further consolidate Jebens's market position. In addition, the continued future-orientation of machines and systems is playing a central role in the joint objectives. The declared aim of the new management team is to react even more quickly and flexibly to customer requirements and any sudden crisis-related market changes in the future. Initially, the new managing directors will be concerned with reorganising and strengthening internal teams and structures. Thanks to her previous work in purchasing, Susanne Britz has close contacts with steelworks, while Marcel Pfahl has maintained contact with suppliers of plant and machinery for many years.
