Spotlight on the Next Generation of Welders: Katrin Eftimova

In this interview series young welders share their stories on how they got started in the trade, the challenges they have faced and what they enjoy most about their work. Meet Katrin Eftimova, who – along with her teammates from Bulgaria –participated in the Young Welding Competition at SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN in Essen, Germany. 

How did you first get into welding and what attracted you to this field?

Katrin Eftimova: I got first into welding in high school. My interest grew after participating in my first competition.

What motivates you most about working with metal and welding technology?

I am motivated by improving technology because I am interested in learning about new things and technologies.

Can you share a project or moment you are especially proud of so far?

I am proud of my two national welding competitions and my two participations in the international competition.

How do you see the future of welding - what opportunities or changes excite you most?

The future in welding is quite promising and rapidly developing. There are many job opportunities, especially with the introduction of new robotic machines.

Who or what has influenced you most on your journey as a welder?

The people who influenced me the most were the people who believed in me and motivated me.

What advice would you give to other young people considering welding as a career?

I would say to young welders not to lose their desire for this job and not to stop improving their skills. The future is in welding.
