Spotlight on the Next Generation of Welders: Stanislav Yordanov

This series highlights young welders from around the world, exploring their stories, motivations and experiences on the frontlines of the industry. Meet Stanislav Yordanov, a young welder from Bulgaria forging his path in a skilled trade often overlooked but essential. In this interview he shares his perspective on what it takes to succeed and why he’s passionate about welding today.

How did you first get into welding and what attracted you to this field?
Stanislav Yordanov: My first encounter with welding was through my work, and although it seemed challenging at first, it quickly caught my interest. I was a bit nervous when I started, but with practice and experience, I became more confident and began to really enjoy it. My parents, especially my father, also inspired me to continue with this craft – seeing his passion for welding motivated me to follow in his footsteps.
 
What motivates you most about working with metal and welding technology?
I am motivated by improving technology because I am interested in learning about new things and technologies.
Can you share a project or moment you are especially proud of so far?
I’m really grateful for the opportunity to take part in two of DVS’s international welding competitions, representing my country. Through these events, I was able to see real progress in my skills and performance. During my second competition, I truly felt that I had improved and was achieving better results. I’m also very happy about the friendships I made there and the great team spirit between me and my colleagues in the team.
How do you see the future of welding – what opportunities or changes excite you most?
What excites me most about the future of welding is the integration of AI. The robots already used in the industry are starting to work with AI, becoming smarter and much more efficient, which makes the work easier and faster. I’m also fascinated by laser welding, an incredible new technology that I find really interesting.
 
Who or what has influenced you most on your journey as a welder?
My inspiration to become a welder has always been my parents, who never stopped supporting me, especially my father. He has taught me in every way possible and given me the opportunities to become one of the best.

What advice would you give to other young people considering welding as a career?
I would definitely recommend pursuing it. Welding is a career with many different paths and offers a sense of fulfillment that few other jobs can match. The industry has enormous potential and plenty of opportunities for growth, which makes it even more exciting. Stay consistent and dedicated, and you’ll discover the best aspects of this field.
