FARO Technologies’ Quantum X FaroArm Series Enhances Portable Metrology

Configurable and scalable solution for manufacturing measurement

FARO Technologies, Inc., the global leader in 3D measurement, imaging and realization solutions, highlights its Quantum X FaroArm Series, a configurable and scalable metrology solution that sets industry-leading standards in accuracy, versatility, and efficiency.

The Quantum X FaroArm Series offers five length options ranging from 2.0 m to 4.0 m and three accuracy performance levels, allowing customers to tailor the solution to their specific measurement needs. The series delivers up to a 15% increase in accuracy compared to previous generation models, pushing the boundaries of precision in portable coordinate measuring machines. This accuracy is evident in its ability to achieve up to 23 μm volumetric accuracy for 2.0 m arms and up to 63 μm for 4.0 m arms. In non-contact scanning, it delivers 30 μm accuracy with a scan rate of up to 1.2 million points per second and 15 μm point spacing, providing detailed scans at unprecedented speeds.

The series includes several features designed to enhance productivity and accuracy. The integration of Laser Line Probes (LLP) enables non-contact measurement with various options. This versatility allows for efficient scanning and probing, maximizing resolution and accuracy while significantly reducing measurement time. Users can hot-swap between multiple LLPs in seconds without the need for compensation, ensuring virtually uninterrupted inspection. A standout feature is the FARO 8-Axis Max rotary worktable, which reduces scanning and probing time by up to 40%. This addition allows for quick measurement of all sides of a part without repositioning, maintaining high accuracy while reducing operator fatigue. The series also incorporates Continuous Light Rectification (CLR) technology, enabling scanning of dark, reflective, or translucent surfaces with any LLP, significantly expanding the range of materials that can be accurately measured.

Designed with user comfort and reliability in mind, the FaroArm features a lightweight and balanced construction, enhancing productivity during extended measurement sessions. The internal counterbalancing system allows for single-hand operation, limiting fatigue and preventing damage to the FaroArm when a joint is unable to hold the weight. Complying with rigorous ISO 10360 performance standards, the series ensures consistent and reliable measurements. Temperature and overload sensors further guarantee continuous, optimum performance under various conditions. The series seamlessly integrates with FARO CAM2® Software, streamlining data processing and analysis for comprehensive quality control and decision-making. High-speed wireless operation with Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connectivity ensures flexibility and ease of use in various environments.

As a modular and portable solution, the FaroArm offers easy setup and transport, making it suitable for diverse environments from shop floors to field applications. This flexibility, combined with its adaptability to access hard-to-reach locations, makes it significantly more versatile than bulkier fixed CMMs, requiring less technical expertise to operate and helping to accelerate assembly workflows. The series caters to a wide range of applications in quality control, fabrication, and design, supporting dimensional accuracy verification, production machinery calibration, and rapid prototyping, making it an invaluable tool across various manufacturing sectors.   For more information or to schedule a demonstration, visit FARO’s website.
