Spotlight on the Next Generation of Welders: Davide Romano

We continue our series spotlighting the next generation of welding professionals. In these interviews, young welders discuss how they got started in the trade, the challenges they’ve faced and what they love most about their work. In this edition, we feature Davide Romano, who, alongside his teammates from Italy, competed in the Young Welding Competition at SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN 2025 in Essen, Germany.

How did you first get into welding and what attracted you to this field?

Davide Romano: I entered this world through the school I attended; this training center prepares you for the world of work, and thanks to it I was able to discover this fantastic world of welding.

What motivates you most about working with metal and welding technology?

The thing that motivates me the most to work in this field is the passion and the continuous learning of new techniques.

Can you share a project or moment you are especially proud of so far?

Certainly, a moment I am proud of so far is my participation in the competition in Essen, where I had the opportunity to meet and compete alongside other young welders from different parts of the world, and in doing so, also learn from and exchange ideas with them.

How do you see the future of welding – what opportunities or changes excite you most?

In my opinion, welding will make a big leap in the future, just as it is already doing now. Many jobs are being replaced by robots, although I believe that certain handcrafted work cannot be replaced by artificial intelligence.”

What advice would you give to other young people considering welding as a career?

A piece of advice I would give to young people who want to pursue this profession is that it is a job full of challenges, but also of achievements and opportunities.

Thank you for sharing your story!
