Spotlight on the Next Generation of Welders: Stephan Klatt

In this interview series, young welders share how they came into the profession, the challenges they have overcome, and what they enjoy most about their work. Today, we introduce Stephan Klatt, who also pursues his passion for welding in his free time.

How did you get into welding, and what fascinated you most about this profession?

Stephan Klatt: I got into welding when I did an internship at a company that primarily focused on this work. That’s where I first came into contact with welding.

What motivates you most about working with metal and welding technology?

Working with steel is particularly exciting because you can build so many different things from a single piece of steel and welding offers countless ways to join materials together.

Is there a project or moment you are particularly proud of?

Since I also have a welding machine at home, I’ve been able to complete several personal projects. For example, I built a welding table with multiple functions and applications.

How do you see the future of welding – what opportunities or changes excite you the most?

Welding will continue to be an important field, but it is increasingly moving toward machine-assisted processes.

What advice would you give to other young people considering a career in welding?

I would recommend this profession because the work is very diverse and involves hands-on work with steel. You also get to learn different welding methods, each suited to different materials.

Thank you for taking the time to share your insights with us.
