WorldSkills Conference 2024 Unveils Initial Lineup of Speakers

WorldSkills Conference 2024 has announced an impressive lineup of speakers who will lead crucial conversations about the future of skills and the role of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in addressing world challenges. Delegates at WorldSkills Conference 2024 will hear from global thought leaders and influencers who will take to the stage on September 11 and 12, 2024 at Eurexpo in Lyon, France, to demonstrate why TVET needs to move up the global agenda.

The opening plenary session, “Strategies for excellence: Towards a global TVET agenda”, will bring together key stakeholders in the TVET landscape to explore the necessary next steps to move the global TVET agenda forward and create concrete action for countries to strengthen their TVET systems.

Speakers include:
  • Yoshiki Takeuchi, Deputy Secretary-General OECD,
  • Prof. Mohamed Belhocine, Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, African Union,
  • Mia Seppo, Assistant Director-General Jobs and Social Protection, ILO,
  • Christopher J. Nelson, Chief Operating Officer, Executive Vice President and President, Tools & Outdoor, Stanley Black & Decker,
  • Sonya Hill, WorldSkills Champions Trust representative for Americas.

A series of breakout sessions will then cover topics ranging from gender segregation in skills to AI to digital transformation in TVET, as well as debates around fragile economies and foundational skills and sustainability.

The closing panel will be a chance to reflect on the two-day global conversation with speakers including:

  • Nardos Bekele-Thomas, Chief Executive Officer of the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD),
  • Borhene Chakroun, Director for Policies and Lifelong Learning Systems, UNESCO,
  • Luis Benveniste, Global Director Education, World Bank,
  • Srinivas B. Reddy, Chief of Skills and Employability Branch, ILO,
  • Dara Treseder, CMO, Autodesk,
  • David Hoey, CEO WorldSkills International.

WorldSkills Conference 2024 promises to be a landmark event, bringing together diverse and fresh perspectives to create a platform for stakeholders to drive meaningful change in skills development.

The final line-up of speakers at this year’s WorldSkills Conference will include some 90 speakers representing global Youth in skills, Member country ministries, employers, academia and partner organisations.
