Clean Material Surfaces

Three testing methods in comparison

Clean material surfaces are an essential factor when it comes to ensure lasting high quality in welding technology. Stainless steel welds should be thoroughly cleaned after TIG welding to protect them from corrosion. Any company working in industrial production must also remove impurities from components in pre-cleaning or intermediate cleaning steps to guarantee seamless processes.

Fronius' MagicCleaner series offers innovative technology for treating TIG welds and stainless steel surfaces, facilitating the cleaning, polishing and inscribing of stainless steel. There are three methods for cleaning stainless steel welds: pickling, mechanical cleaning and electrochemical cleaning.  All three methods are useful in different situations and they all function more or less according to the same principle: The passive layer destroyed by the heat of the arc during welding is restored, preventing corrosion and consequently harmful rust. MagicCleaner can also permanently inscribe stainless steel with company logos, item numbers or barcodes.

The Acerios hot active plasma technology allows partial and precise cleaning of material surfaces in industrial production by removing organic residues and film impurities quickly and efficiently. This application uses low energy consumption and doesn’t contain any environmentally harmful cleaning additives. The hot active plasma generated by Acerios is guided automatically over the material surfaces. The pyrolysis and plasma processes remove the organic impurities and provide sufficient pre-treatment of the material surface. Whether metallic or non-metallic, atmospheric pressure plasma is used to clean organic residues off surfaces without the use of liquid chemicals.
