Safety, Sustainability and Efficiency for Semiconductor Industry

The semiconductor industry is under enormous pressure to innovate and reduce costs while facing the challenge of meeting stringent safety, quality and sustainability requirements. From 18 to 21 November, TÜV Süd will be presenting its comprehensive service portfolio for manufacturers of machinery and components at Semicon Europa 2025 in Munich, Germany. The company supports the entire value chain, from development and operation to sustainable orientation.

High standards in a complex industry

“In addition to common industry standards, the semiconductor industry also uses its own industry-specific safety guidelines, which machine manufacturers must take into account,” explains Fabian Bartholomäus, Team Leader SEMI Testing & Certification at TÜV Süd. “Every machine and every component must be tested with the utmost precision, because even the slightest deviation can have significant economic consequences. We help our customers to implement these requirements efficiently and reliably.” In addition to classic safety and functional tests, the company offers a variety of other testing services required by end customers. The aim is to detect errors at an early stage, save time and costs, and shorten time-to-market.

Comprehensive safety and compliance services

At Semicon TÜV Süd will present its range of safety and compliance services for the industry. Services include “Testing & Certification according to SEMI guidelines, industry standards and national requirements, e.g. EU directives or OSHA requirements” as well as “Technical Dialogue & Training” for teams. Manufacturers are supported in both the development of new tools and in the safe operation of existing machines.

Global challenges – local solutions

“We are currently seeing enormous investments in new manufacturing capacity worldwide – from Asia to Europe to North America,” explains Fabian Bartholomäus. “Everywhere, manufacturers are facing the same questions: How can opportunities be exploited through growth and technological progress without failing due to regulatory or market-specific hurdles? Our global presence enables us to address this issue precisely, providing local expertise and global consistency. This is a decisive factor in ensuring international competitiveness.” Another focus is energy efficiency. New guidelines such as SEMI S23 set standards for monitoring and reducing the energy consumption of manufacturing facilities. TÜV Süd supports manufacturers and operators in complying with these requirements while reducing their operating costs.

Sustainability becomes a competitive factor

Sustainability is also playing an increasingly important role in the semiconductor industry. Companies are increasingly required to disclose the environmental impact of their products transparently. Significant CO₂ reductions can be achieved with the help of the tracer gas test. In addition, compliance with industry-specific standards is becoming increasingly important.
