Weld-Immune Sensors with Remote Control Function

Sensors used in welding applications in the automotive industry must operate with precision and robustness. Inductive weld-immune sensors from Contrinex meet both requirements: their durable, anti-adhesive Activstone ceramic coating allows welding spatter to slide right off the surface. In the automotive industry, inductive weld-resistant sensors detect the position of the metal sheets to be joined. This ensures that metal plates are correctly placed on their intended fixtures before welding. 

The ceramic coating was developed specifically for use in MIG, MAG and spot welding applications. Its non-stick, abrasion-resistant surface prevents the buildup of spatter and simplifies sensor maintenance. Activestone is resistant to thermal stress as well as mechanical loads. Weld-resistant inductive sensors from Contrinex also feature a one-piece stainless steel housing (V2A / AISI 303). They withstand magnetic interference from medium-frequency welding fields (currents up to 15 kA) and are impact-resistant.

Compared to conventional Teflon coatings, Activestone offers better abrasion resistance and higher temperature stability. In addition, unlike Teflon, the ceramic coating is not affected by potential stricter PFAS regulations being considered by the EU. The temperature of weld-resistant sensors can be monitored via IO-Link. If a predefined threshold is exceeded, an alarm is triggered. IO-Link also provides access to the output switching function, LED function and a counter with threshold alarm.

In addition to inductive weld-immune sensors, Contrinex also equips its smart all-metal sensors of the 700 series with the Activestone coating. These sensors combine the advantages of smart sensing with the high robustness of the ceramic coating and all-metal housing. Both the weld-immune sensors and the smart all-metal sensors are also available without the Activestone coating.
