DVS President Susanne Szczesny-Oßing Awarded Economic Medal

On 15 January 2026, the Minister of Economic Affairs of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate, Daniela Schmitt, awarded Susanne Szczesny-Oßing, President of DVS – German Welding Society (Deutscher Verband für Schweißen und verwandte Verfahren e. V.), the State’s Economic Medal. With this honor, the State of Rhineland-Palatinate recognizes her lifetime entrepreneurial achievements, her consistent commitment to innovation, research, and training, as well as her many years of voluntary service to business and industry.

“Susanne Szczesny-Oßing exemplifies responsible entrepreneurship, innovative strength and social commitment. She combines economic success with a clear commitment to research, education and regional value creation – making her a formative shaper of Rhineland-Palatinate as a business location,” said Minister of Economic Affairs Daniela Schmitt a few days ago at the award ceremony.

Szczesny-Oßing worked for 42 years at the family-owned company EWM, which was founded by her grandfather in 1957. She joined the management board in 2005 and led the EWM Group as Chair of the Executive Management Board from 2020 until October 2025. Since November 2025, she has contributed her expertise as an external Senior Advisor.

In addition, she takes on voluntary responsibility in key economic bodies and associations—among others as President of DVS and of the Koblenz Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK). She is also committed to promoting STEM professions and was appointed a “Role Model Entrepreneur” by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs.

Dr.-Ing. Roland Boecking, Chief Executive Officer of DVS, adds: “The award of the Economic Medal underscores the exceptional significance of Susanne Szczesny-Oßing’s contributions to business and industry. She combines entrepreneurial strength with social responsibility and brings this attitude to her role as President of DVS. Within the association, she is valued not only for her comprehensive knowledge of the entire industry, but also for her authenticity, her high level of personal commitment, and her consistently respectful approach, even when engaging with differing opinions. She and her work have a decisive influence on DVS. In doing so, she sets a strong example for the future of our association and for the entire industry.”

“I accept this award with pride and deep gratitude—on behalf of my family and our entire workforce. Through great teamwork, we have actively shaped the path of our company. They have always supported me and given me the freedom for my voluntary commitments,” explains the DVS President.
