We Simulate the Welding Experience during Training

Training in welding is a major challenge during times of skilled worker shortages . Anna Breuer, Head of Operations & Sales Coordinator at Seabery, explains the solution Soldamatic. This solution supports welding based on Augmented Reality (Hyperreal-SIM technology).

What is Hyperreal-SIM technology about?

Anna Breuer: We use it to simulate the welding experience when training – as realistically as possible. Welding torch, welding gloves and welding helmet are used as usual. Instead of the visor, the helmet features a display. At the nozzle of the welding torch there are QR codes. Thanks to this augmented reality, you can touch the workpiece and see your own hands and surroundings.

What types of feedback are possible?

The torch and the welding angle as well as the speed and the distance are displayed. These indicators provide direct assistance during welding and efficiently train muscle memory. Later in training, they can be turned off. Furthermore, the instructor can stand nearby and provide feedback. Through our e-learning software, he can also monitor and support several students simultaneously.

What is the advantage of the modular structure of Soldamatic?

At SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN we present our training solution. For the industry, our Welding Pro solution is highly valuable, as it offers an even more lifelike welding experience. This solution has the capability to create digital twins. This is beneficial for companies, for example, when the same workpiece has to be welded repeatedly. This reduces material consumption during recertification of industrial welders and thus protects the environment.

So every level of knowledge can be taken into account?

Exactly, initial training or further training including recertification of experts – both are possible. Companies that hire new employees or rely on temporary workers, can test whether the skills of a future employee fit the company. However, we will never be able to replace traditional vocational training, but rather aim to complement it in a meaningful way.

What will be possible in the future?

We are currently expanding our portfolio with another STEM solution for students aged 11 to 16. At the same time, our vision is directed towards the industry. We want to support industrial welders as well as large companies even better.

Thank you!
