Plasma Spraying of Internal Surfaces

At the ITSC 2026 Arzell will present its C+ cascade plasma technology for thermal spraying of internal surfaces (ID). The further developed technology will enable coatings in internal diameters down to 3 inches.

This is based on earlier development work on high-power plasma concepts and a resulting patented extension. A dedicated ID nozzle is intended to maintain the conditions required for energy-intensive plasma spray processes even in confined geometries.

The system is designed for plasma power levels of up to approximately 100 kW and can also be operated at off-axis spray angles. Compared with existing ID plasma systems, typical limitations are addressed, such as minimum diameter constraints, limited spray angles, voltage instability, or reduced performance with certain primary gas concepts. Configurable nozzles, variable powder injection, and adjustable spray spot sizes are intended to tailor the process toward coating quality, efficiency, and repeatability. As an application field, ZrO₂/Y₂O₃ thermal barrier coatings are cited in particular, where particle temperature and velocity are critical.

The company can be found at Booth 526.
