RIPT 2026: International Conference on Thermal Spraying

From June 10 through 12, 2026, the international thermal spray community will gather for the 12th RIPT – “Les Rencontres Internationales de la Projection Thermique”. The event will take place at Forschungszentrum Jülich, Germany with the focus on current developments in spraying processes, coating materials, simulation, diagnostics, functional coatings and additive manufacturing.

RIPT has established itself as a scientifically oriented forum for in-depth exchange in the field of thermal spraying. The conference provides experts from research and industry a platform to discuss new findings on spraying processes, coating materials and applications. Key topics include powders and suspensions, cold spray and other kinetic processes, solution and suspension spraying, process diagnostics, simulation and modelling, as well as the characterisation of coatings. Functional coatings, biomaterials, thermal and environmental barrier coatings, coatings for energy applications, additive manufacturing and post-treatment processes will also be on the agenda.

Educational course for newcomers

A special programme item is the educational course on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. Entitled Thermal Spraying: Classification Among Films and Coatings Technologies, Coating Properties, Characterisation and Applications, this course is particularly aimed at those new to the field of thermal spraying. Experienced experts will lead the course, including Šárka Houdková, Shrikant V. Joshi, Sanjay Sampath, Georg Mauer and Lech Pawłowski.

Industrial exhibition as a platform for companies

In addition to the scientific programme, RIPT 2026 will also provide space for exchange between industry and research. Companies will be able to present themselves as part of an industrial exhibition, for example with solutions relating to spraying equipment, diagnostics, spray materials such as powders, suspensions and precursors as well as characterisation technologies for mechanical testing and microstructural analysis.

Programme with technical sessions, poster contributions and networking

The preliminary programme for Thursday, June 11, includes several sessions, a poster session and the conference dinner in Aachen. Further technical sessions will follow on Friday, June 12; at the end of the conference, participants will have the opportunity to visit the Jülich Thermal Spray Center.

A number of internationally renowned invited talks have also been announced. They will cover topics including alternative wear protection systems, new approaches in surface engineering, high-entropy-alloy-based coatings, advanced powder processing, metallic alloy coatings, ceramic coatings, solution precursor plasma spraying, cold spray strategies and applications in aviation, photocatalysis and hydrogen technology. With its thematic scope ranging from fundamental research and process development to industrial applications, RIPT 2026 is an important meeting point for everyone involved in modern coating technologies and thermal spraying.
