Joining Forces to Expand Thermal Spray Capabilities

Dundee-based ATL Turbine Services has expanded its technological capabilities by investing in the Surface Two thermal spray system from Oerlikon. This strategic move underlines ATL’s commitment to delivering high-performance, precision-engineered coating solutions for turbine components across the aerospace, energy and industrial sectors. The Surface Two system, developed by Oerlikon Metco, is designed for scalable, IIoT-enabled thermal spray applications and offers increased capacity, readiness for automation and consistent process performance. With the ability to handle components up to 2,000 mm in diameter and 1,500 mm in height, the system is ideally suited to ATL’s focus on servicing medium-to-large turbine parts to the highest quality standards.

“This investment reflects our commitment to innovation and to providing our customers with the most advanced and dependable coating technologies available,” says Tom Hanratty, Business Development Manager. “Surface Two™ gives us the flexibility and performance we need to support future growth and evolving customer requirements.” The new system has been fully integrated into ATL’s production environment, supporting both refurbishment and new component coating processes. Its smart manufacturing features – including the MultiCoat 5 controller and Clarity2 user interface. “Oerlikon is delighted to partner with ATL as the launch customer for the new Surface Two – the first installation worldwide – further strengthening the long-term relationship between our two organisations, states Dejan Meyer, Project Manager.” This investment forms part of ATL’s broader initiative to increase automation, enhance sustainability and reinforce its position as a trusted partner in turbine technology.
