Universal Robots (UR) is expanding its portfolio with the UR8 Long – a cobot with extended reach, developed for high-precision automation tasks in confined spaces. Making its European debut at SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN, the UR8 Long is designed for applications such as welding complex components or fast, precise bin picking. With optimised motion performance and smoother processes the UR8 Long is designed to deliver results in challenging environments.
Smooth Robotics, another UR partner, will also be presenting the UR8 Long at its stand. In addition, there will be an opportunity to see a special presentation of the UR8 Long at the Future Hub stage on Thursday, 18 September at 11:30 a.m. With the same 1,750 mm reach as the established UR20 and a slimmer profile, the UR8 Long combines long reach, stability and precision in a robust, compact and lightweight form with a payload of 8 kg. This makes it ideal for confined spaces and industrial tasks such as complex welding work, precise order picking or flexible multi-point inspections.
Designed for welding
With its features the UR8 Long is well-suited for welding. It runs on both PolyScope 5 and PolyScope X, UR's software platform. It can also be upgraded with MotionPlus, UR's new motion control technology. This enables easy integration with linear axes, rotary positioners and rotary tables for control, smoother motion paths and consistent accuracy. Combined with UR's improved Freedrive functions, users can manually guide the arm. The UR8 Long's lighter weight – 30 % less than the UR20 – and compact wrist design also make it suitable for mounting on gantries, rails or overhead systems.
UR partner Lorch Schweißtechnik will demonstrate the UR8 Long at SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN at the Universal Robots booth in Hall 3 (Stand 3C18).
